Lake Maggiore

Lake Maggiore, a natural, historical paradise between Piedmont and Lombardy, is home to the Borromean Islands. More than its siblings to the east, Lake Maggiore harbours a distinct belle-epoque air. The lake became a popular tourist destination in the late 19th century with the Simplon Pass’s opening, and this era, with its stately hotels and regal promenades, still defi nes its essence. The lake’s shores are dotted with small villages, lakeside promenades, noble villas and ancient hermitages. Near the shoreline, you can fi nd nature trails to explore by foot, mountain bike or horseback.
